The Sydney Swans Academy was established in 2010 to develop talent in NSW where AFL is not a traditional sport.

It operates in nine regions including Sydney Metro, Sydney North, Sydney South, Illawarra, Northern Beaches, Central Coast, Hunter, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour and involves 650 boys between the ages of 11 and 19.

It’s an elite long-term development program tailored to each age group providing the very best training. Former Academy members have progressed to the Sydney Swans senior list with Isaac Heeney and Callum Mills the most notable current stars.

The Academy provides the Sydney Swans with local talent to draft and all AFL clubs can recruit graduates of the program.

There are open athlete assessment trials held annually for boys in the under 10 to under 12 age groups to join the Swans Academy. The trials involve tests that measure hand/eye coordination, agility, speed and ball skills. There are also other opportunities for boys to join the Academy throughout the year.
