Ash Barty wins first ever singles match at Australian Open

Ash Barty won her first ever singles match at the Australian Open and her first grand slam singles match in more than three years, defeating German Annika Beck 6-4 7-5 to advance to the second round.

The 20-year-old Australian, who received a wildcard into the Open, continues her successful comeback to professional tennis after an 18-month break in which she played WBBL cricket for the Brisbane Heat.

Barty will next take on American Shelby Rogers, a tough opponent who easily knocked out the number four seed Simona Halep.
